A world renowned tourist destination is “La Isla de la Munecas”- a Spanish name which means the Island of the dolls. This Island of dolls is situated in Mexico and as the name suggests, one expects to see a beautiful world which will leave an everlasting impression. But the reality is exactly opposite and very harsh when one discovers the thousands of mutilated ugly dolls hanging from every tree on the island.
Don Julian Santana, a hermit who renounced the world and his family to inhabit this island dedicated his last fifty years of his life to the make the “La Isla de la Munecas”. It is believed that, he did this to please the spirit of a little girl who had drowned in the canal. Whatever may be the reason, he managed to turn this island into a bizarre, scary place where an eerie eye of mutilated dolls haunts your every move, on this strange island.
Don Julian is said to have led an isolated life ,except when he ventured to collect old dolls that he either scavenged from the garbage dump or bought in exchange for his homegrown fruits and vegetables. Personally one is made to believe that he obviously did not like intrusion and tried to scare off inquisitive onlookers by hanging scary doll faces. In 2001, Don Julian was discovered drowned to his death in the same canal surrounding his home. Don Julian is dead to the world but his eerie disturbed vision stays on, in the faces of lifeless dolls mutilated and hung in the worst forms of human torture and punishment.
This is a ghostly sight that serves as a dark tourist attraction especially for the young generation who is fascinated by gore and death. Many visitors are overwhelmed by the dead childish faces of dolls that never lived but appear to haunt this place, always looking at us as though we were responsible for their deaths. Actually this was also investigated by Josh from destination truth which did uncover a lot of evidence from this real place. This is also known as a haunted island with a lot of paranormal activities. One had the EVP that caught the voice telling them to get out of the island.

This article is so poorly written. A drunk kangaroo could do better.

Hey, you’re kinda right and kinda wrong. I’ve been there and it’s not like it’s full of turists, of youngsters wanting to see mutilated dolls… It’s a good article, this one here, but still, if you say there are mutilated dolls it’s really not good… it doesn’t sound that good. The story is that a girl did drown, and after that he got dolls from the water around the island, and at the markets and so on, and he hung them, but not to scare people, that’s sure.
Some other information, you can visit the island, you just have to get on a kinda boat, called “trajinera”, and ask for the island. The entrance to it costs 10 pesos, that is less than a dollar, and it’s quite an interesting visit, you can take really good pictures there.
P.D. You’ll ask ‘how do you know all this????’. I live here in Mexico. Greetings!

I have gone so long without speaking up, but after reading this article I can no longer lurk silently. Planetoddity.com, while having very interesting articles, contains some of the most poorly written drivel on the internet. Not only does this article look like it was written by mongoose traveling through space, but it repeats itself! Does anybody proofread this shite?

Why do you just repeat the same copy?
Couldn’t you just have shown the photos when you ran out of stuff to say?

that is seriously creepy….i’d still see it though lol…but it seems that a lot of creepy stuff exists in Mexico, or is it just me that thinks that?
May 10th, 2010 at 9:05 pm
Yeah, my first thought was of how “high school” the writing of this article was (complete with over-use of commas and everything).
I also saw the Destination Truth episode, which was even creepier (I think one of the dolls had moved or something). That last picture is just plain scary!

i love dolls but when i saw it, it kinda horrible.. there was really something wrong at that place. is this really true? why the government didn’t yet solution it?

Hi! I live in Mexico City and I’ve been there. It’s creepy as hell. It’s not an island though… It’s called a “chinampa” (sorry, no translation there), which means it’s a floating platform originally built for agriculture which stays in place by the use of poles that are fixed to the canal bottom. And, for the person who said “why hasn’t the government fixed this”: COME ON!!! what has the government to do with the decoration of someone’s backyard? it’s not illegal to tear down some friggin’ dolls and hang them all over your house. It’s that kind of thinking that has all of us in this stupidly over controlled state in which the government tells you exactly how you should live. Sorry, but I was plain shocked with that dumb comment.

I am from Canada and was staying with a friend who lived in Mexico City and has a place in Queretaro and he took me there…It’s not scary…I’ll admit it’s different! The man did it for a little girl!!!!
And I did see Destination Truth…That thing is a sham and I can’t believe they pay some person and a crew to go around and investigate things that are NOT EVEN REAL…..HE NEVER FINDS ANYTHING!!!! Yea ok a doll’s eye opened on it’s own when he was there…whatever!!
