Stunning And Delicate Toothpick Art

Most of us use toothpicks after eating or maybe for some detailed work like nail art. This guy is using it to make art. Amazing! His name is Steven J. Backman and for him every toothpick can be made into a famous landmark replica. The sculptures are so small that it’s ridiculously difficult to even imagine how he does it.

He uses only toothpicks and glue, and for some of the sculptures he is even using only 1 toothpick. Of course he fails a lot of times before he finally makes one that’s perfect, because a toothpick is obviously very fragile. The landmarks are for example the Eiffel Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, The White House and Empire State Building.

He has also used several toothpicks to make illustrations of Mona Lisa, etc. Toothpick art has been popular for quite some time. Here you can see the biggest and tallest toothpick structure ever.

Fake Arms Full Of Tattoos

I’ve always wondered how new starter tattoo artist practice on tattoos before getting out in the real business. A fake arm would be ideal, but does that really exist? Apparently it does, but not for practice. Tattoo artist Guy Le Tatooer is a professional that is tattooing people all the time, but for this art project he used fake arms. The arms are of course prosthetic and are copies of Guy’s own arm, and he used a traditional electric system to tattoo them.

You can see the exhibition in Gimpel & Muller gallery in Paris where the arms are represented behind glass. Guy think that tattoo is like art, so he wanted to show express his work in a gallery and not just on bodies that usually gets tattooed by him. Birds As Military Generals

You know paintings of old generals and old military leaders. Try switch up their faces with bird faces, like pigeons for example – hilarious! Artist Samantha Zaza created illustrations where she painted important uniforms that could belong to any known general, and painted in bird faces.

The birds look so serious and some look even proud, so you can’t take them serious because it all looks so funny. Some have even put on a evil face, almost like they know what the uniform means. As a child Samantha sat a lot in a fig tree drawing, and she really drew all over anything she came across; the school benches, her hands, clothes and her books. Human Busts Looking Hyper-Realistic

Serbian artist and sculptor Marc Sijan, now living in Milwaukee, has really done an excellent job on making these human busts. They look so hyper-realistic you could have almost thought that they are real human bodies on pedestals, or at least body busts, or torsos, call it whatever you want. It looks amazing at the same time as it is a bit creepy and bizarre.

Either way this sort of creepiness took Sijan a lot of effort to make. It was such a long process that needs a lot of casting plastic molds and almost 25 coats of painting. No wonder it took so long, just look at the details, like the tattoos, they look as out washed as a real old tattoo does. Sijan has always been fascinated by anatomy and biology, and that always reflects in his works.

Cartoon Characters Showing Their Anatomy

On a previous article the art work of Hyungkoo Lee was represented, where he made skeleton sculptures of famous cartoon characters. A similar thing has been done by the American artist Jason Freeny. He chose to 3D sculptures as well as posters that show the inside skeleton of famous cartoon legends like Nemo, Super Mario and Hello Kitty. The interesting thing about the sculptures is that they don’t look creepy at all, rather cute, because they have a lot of colors and they are made in a way so they almost look like toys.

Freeny has even made a big poster of Gingerbread Man’s anatomy, numbering all the parts inside his “body”, representing him like a real human being that has lungs, intestines, liver, and so on. Some will think that it’s fun whilst others will think that it’s kind of bizarre to use cartoon characters in this way.

Nailympics – An Unusual Manicure

It is a well-known thing that long and fixed nails are both attractive and feminine, but the nails they are making at the Nailympics are a bit, well, overstated. The Olympic games of nails was first held in USA about ten years ago when some nail brands decided to make a non-profit competition for fun. This year top rated manicurists participated in London on events as “fantasy nail art” and “gel sculpture”. For those who think that this is easy, you are very wrong, because the participants needed several years of training before they were ready to compete.

Up to 24 countries with 354 competitors attended the Nailympics showing what their country can offer. They make artificial acrylic nail and glue them on natural nails of the models, and the ideas are many, everything from forest to angels. Newspaper and Book Sculptures in New York

The New York inspired artist Nick Georgiou from Queens has managed to use something as simple as newspapers to create art, more precisely sculptures. He finds pleasure in giving words life and transforming them into something different. The sculptures are some strange creatures but they can remind of animals like dogs. Some of them even reminds of little aliens.

He has placed most of them around in New York City, but some of his collections are for the indoors like the ones that look like paintings because of the frames. He also tears apart books to create his installations. Still both tourists and New York citizens are attracted to these little newspaper sculptures and will stop to take photos. Insanely Detailed Origami Architecture

We have all heard about origami – the traditional Japanese folk art of paper folding. It’s super popular in Japan and it has spread around the whole world, and evolved into a modern art form. The folds in origami are basic and there are not many, but there are several forms of origami and several things you can make out of this small number of folds. One of them is origami architecture that involves using cut-out and folded paper, as thin paperboard. The three-dimensional are the hardest ones, and require skills of an architect.

These pictures are showing some of the great works of origami architecture where some of the papers are opened 360^o that involves the hardest folding. Just imagine how many prototypes had to be made before they managed to create the perfect origami building.

200,000 Ants Cries Every Time You See This Painting

For some people painting with regular paints seems not to be enough, like for Chris Trueman from California who has became famous by his unusual painting but the price of his fame was pretty big. He had to kill 200,000 ants to create his weird painting of his younger brother.

We are not going to discuss the quality of the painting but I believe this is just wrong. Being so small doesn’t make ants less valuable than any other animal and according to that, killing an ant without any reason is pretty as same as killing a dog or cat.

Chris had to spend a lot of time to catch and kill all those ants. However, one day he realized that he has to speed up his work so he decided to find some faster solution than catching all ants by himself. Soon, after short online research, he found a guy who is selling ants as food for lizards but he still had to kill them before putting them on his painting.

I am not still sure should we call this ‘painting’ or it is better to name it ‘ant massacre’ but, whatever you call it, it is totally sick and inhuman.

Realistic and Colorful Paper Figures Made by Russian Artist Duo

Alexei Lyapunov and Lena Ehrlich are artistic duo from Russia. They are creating amazing paper sculptures of people’s everyday situations.

Every of their paper-sculpture installations represents an unique story from everyday life of an average human being. The choice to make them colorful is something what I like the most, and this is what makes those figures look more entertaining.

You can also see that they have focused their work to ‘capture’ the perfect movement positions of figures which is the main cause they look so realistic. Their collection of sculptures is called ‘People Too’.
