Unbelievably Realistic Paintings

At first I thought this was real black and white photographs, but then I realized it was paintings. Amazing is the perfect word for Spanish painter Juan Bautista Nieto’s work. And if you wonder how he can draw such perfect human bodies, the answer is: he studied medicine before studying art.

He uses a combination of acrylic and oil paint, and he paints with an air-brush method. He uses a lot of time on each painting because he wants it all to be very detailed, so he produced a couple of paintings every year.

He says himself that only one painting take about 6 to 9 months to finish. In his work you will see a lot of female bodies, either dressed or half undressed.

The work is so delicate that you can sit a really long time just staring at them trying to figure out one flaw that would make it look more like a painting than a photo. Other realistic paintings are these cinematic paintings.

Stunning And Delicate Toothpick Art

Most of us use toothpicks after eating or maybe for some detailed work like nail art. This guy is using it to make art. Amazing! His name is Steven J. Backman and for him every toothpick can be made into a famous landmark replica. The sculptures are so small that it’s ridiculously difficult to even imagine how he does it.

He uses only toothpicks and glue, and for some of the sculptures he is even using only 1 toothpick. Of course he fails a lot of times before he finally makes one that’s perfect, because a toothpick is obviously very fragile. The landmarks are for example the Eiffel Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, The White House and Empire State Building.

He has also used several toothpicks to make illustrations of Mona Lisa, etc. Toothpick art has been popular for quite some time. Here you can see the biggest and tallest toothpick structure ever.

Small Things Get Really Big

Spanish artist Romulo Celdran wanted to make small things look bigger, a lot bigger. He turns everyday objects like gloves, sponges and match sticks, and turns them into oversized items that are overwhelming. He has taken a lot of photos where himself is sitting next to the things.

This of course makes him look so tiny you would think he lives in a world with giant people.

The project is called “Zoom and Macro”, and the concept is to “give the object new dimensions, strengthening its presence and inviting us to explore it, discovering hidden spaces and unnoticed nooks”.

I think he succeeded in every way, and we can’t wait for more art works from this talented artist. What else to say than that the results are stunning.

Artists Celebrating 20th Anniversary Of Edward Scissorhands

It has been 20 years since Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder played in Edward Scissorhands. The romantic fantasy film directed by Tim Burton was a sensation. It’s the story of an artificial man named Edward, an unfinished creation, who has scissors for hands. He falls in love with a teenage girl, but it gets complicated.

To celebrate the 20 years anniversary a bunch of artist have gathered and made their interpretation of Scissorhands. 40 beautiful illustrations were made and here you can see some of them. The styles are very different but extremely unique. Some are prints, others are paintings or drawings.

There were no limits, something that every artist desire. The art pieces are all gathered in Gallery Nucleus, but also on a blog of artist Seb Mesnard which dedicated that blog especially for this 20th anniversary. Enjoy the contributions. A similar thing was done to celebrate the Star Wars movies by gathering 100 artists that made their unique Darth Vader helmet.

Realistic And Stunning Cinematic Paintings

These are oil paintings, some very realistic ones too. The talented artist Joe Simpsons is the one that’s painting these breathtaking pieces of art, you have probably heard of him already. It looks like different scenes from movies, and that is the effect he wanted. Theatrical lighting and wide screen format is the tricks that he has been using a lot. If you can notice, every painting has some sort of sad plot.

Either it’s someone that is leaving or someone writing a painful letter. Dark colors and rain is also used to make it all look dramatic. Not to mention how detailed the characters on the paintings are, you can easily read their face expressions. Cool Illustrations Of Zelda Bosses

Canadian artist Matt Cumming has drawn some bad-ass illustrations of Zelda bosses. If you don’t know what Zelda is, let me explain. Zelda is a high fantasy action-adventure video game series created by Japanese game designers. It is one of Nintendo’s most important franchises, and it consists a mixture of action, adventure, and puzzle solving.

As any other action and adventure game it involves powerful bosses, and here they are represented. You have Trinexx, Kholdstare, Mothula and many others. Some of them look really evil even though it’s just an illustration. I guess a lot of Japanese fans are going nuts about it. Paintings of Skype models

Not a Still Frame is the name of an exhibition that show portraits of persons that are on Skype. German/Newzealander artist Sandro Kopp is painting different people on Skype; everyone from his friends to the more famous personalities. You can somehow see the quality of Skype and how it is not perfect because that other person moves all the time and the video quality is changing a lot.

The paintings are done during a Skype-session with the other persons modeling for him. It takes him about 3-5 hours to finish one piece, and the models have to sit for so long. The lighting and pixels are unpredictable so that is what makes the results so interesting. Among the celebrities you can see Tilda Swinton and John C. Reilly. Total sitters are 36 and they are all exhibited in the Not s Still Frame exhibition. Something that can remind of these paintings is Scott Wade’s dusty windshield drawings.

Super Mario Appears In Nintendo Fanart

After already representing some Super Mario works, like the one where they made a huge Super Mario Panel out of 17 000 push pins, we want to represent you something new. The US-based illustrator and cartoonist Andrew Dobson has drawn something he is calling Nintendo Fanart, where he is drawing Super Mario in different Nintendo environments.

The illustrations are colorful and messy that gives it a fun and joyful look. Some of the scenes are quite fun, and he has also added talking bubbles so the characters can get more life. Dobson has been drawing cartoons since he was very young and he has a a degree in Animation and Comic Arts. Now he is writing and publishing his own comics independently. We would like to see more of his work in the future.

Old Skateboards Becoming Artistic Skulls

Mixing skateboards with skulls mus to look bad-ass, and it really does. Designer Beto Janz has taken old used skateboards and created them into awesome skull art. This was actually done to promote a skate shop in Brazil, and you have to admit that the skulls are a cool idea. They promoted it in an underground way, because they applied stickers with the address to the shop on the skulls and placed them around other skate shops, so that people would notice them.

Those who do it will get the skulls as a souvenir, and I’m sure that they will go visit the skate shop only because the advertising was so great. Janz had to break the skateboards into pieces before he drilled a couple of holes in it so it would eventually look like a scary skull. A skater or not a skater, either way it would be really cool to find one of these skulls. Another artist that has used skulls as inspiration is this Russian artist that transforms fruit into skulls.

17 000 Push Pins Make a Huge Super Mario Panel

Some creative students from the CIS Student Association gathered and started a project that is out of the ordinary. They used colored push pins to create a Mario Bros panel, like in the famous video game. It is said that they used 17,000 push pins and that it took them two and a half semesters to finish it. The art piece is to be found in the Student Computing Center at the University of the Fraser Valley.

It is a different kind of decoration but it definitely brightens up any school, or type of classroom. It is also cool to have such projects at school because I bet it helps on the atmosphere and the social bonding too. Speaking of Super Mario, here you can see the real world adventures of the 8-bit character and his fellowship.
