Awesome Pencil Drawings From Students Notebooks

Posted on 28 June 2010 by

When I was in high school I was pretty bored on the most of the lessons I had to attend, especially maths and physics. So, I used to scrible different objects in my notebook and at the end of the year my notebook looked like true piece of artwork. However that wasn’t very helpful when I had to pass the exams. Update: Those outstanding drawings belongs to Andrea Joseph.

Hyper-Realistic Paintings by Richard Estes

Posted on 29 May 2010 by

I have always considered those painters who are trying to make their paintings look more realistic as a real artist. I am not a big fan of abstract paintings and artworks which are far away from reality. Richard Estes is painting artist from United States who makes great realistic paintings that look like real photos. Richard is born in 1932 in Kewane, Illinois and he has made a long career as an artist.

realistic paintings 1

He is considered to be one of the founders of new photo-realist artistic movement which is also known as super-realism or hyper-realism. The painters who follow this movement are trying to paint as realistic paintings as they can and to provide us almost exact details of the environment which was the subject of their artworks, without any additions.

Unusual Paintings on Floppy Discs and Cassettes

Posted on 23 May 2010 by

Floppy discs have definitely became the part of history. Once, they were inevitable part of any computer and most of us remember the days when we had to deal with those not so cool magnetic drives in order to store our data. Nick Gentry is an artist and he is one of a very few people who still use the floppy discs to do the job. Well, he doesn’t use them to store the data but he uses them as a material for his interesting artworks.

Nick uses floppy discs to make some paintings on them. He paints portrait and he often use the center of the floppy disk as a space where he draws the eye.

If you look carefully, you will notice that floppy discs aren’t the only forgotten medium for data storage which are used by this artist. He also uses magnetic tapes, usually to draw eyes on them. If you wonder what happened with all those floppy discs who suddenly disappeared from the world of computers then you may find the part of an answer in this article.

Carving On The Desks

Posted on 08 February 2010 by

A London-based artist, Ben Turnbull born in 1974 and expelled from two schools where he used to spent time drawing and carving out some exquisite caricatures on to a desk which today had led him to be one of the controversial artists with his controversial works, surely knows how to make strong impact with his art.

His main focus has mostly been America as he is fascinated by the global dominance of the American political system. His work that resembles the children’s toys mainly depicts the prevalence of violence in society today, as his wood carvings are mainly of different guns and weapons which surely attract one’s attention.

A Life Sized Stagecoach Made With 1.5 Million Toothpicks

Posted on 14 December 2009 by

A toothpick may have been used for many imaginative purposes, yet none matched the innovative creation of Terry Woodling. Terry Woodling, a 72 year old artist from Warsaw in Indiana, dedicated fifteen years of his life towards his vision-’A life sized stagecoach made with toothpicks’. Using his creative eye, skillful hands and patience, he managed to glue together 1.5 million flat toothpicks into a colorful, eye catching and attractive stage coach. This impossible feat attracted attention of people from faraway places. Yet sadly it did not qualify for the Guinness book of world records.

The reason behind the rejection was the use of glue in the process of making the stagecoach. Mr. Terry Woodling, also referred to as Mr. Toothpick, was undaunted by this failure and graciously donated his creation to the local Warsaw museum. Later on it was recognized by the Ripley’s Believe-it-or-not hall of fame. At the first glance, people can hardly guess that this colorful stagecoach is made from mere toothpicks. It is an exquisite piece of handiwork with extreme detailed work. The entire stagecoach and its wheels are designed as per the Victorian era depicting a time before the automobile invasion, when stagecoaches pulled by horses were the only means of transport.
