Potato Faces – Literally

Have you ever looked at a pile of potatoes and thought: wow it would be cool to paint something on them so they look like faces? Well, I have been thinking that at least, and finally someone has done it properly. The talented artist Ginou Choueiri has taken random potatoes and painted realistic faces on them. You maybe wonder why she chose potatoes as base? She thought that the texture and the color are similar to ours, and they come in different shape and sizes, so it had to be fun playing around with that.

Potatoes are also a part of our nature, so why not connect them with human faces? Some of the faces look scary in a way, but it’s all in all really fascinating, because not even one looks like the other, everybody is unique, just like human faces. They actually remind me of the weird-looking sculpture from USA that is made of twigs and branches.

Chinese Fast Food Restaurant on the Street

Tasteful WoW characters in forms of cakes

World of Warcraft, also known as WoW, is very known to most people. It is a multiplayer online role-playing game, and it was released in 2007 so you can say that it is pretty new. The players tend to be really into the game, and it is a lot of hype about it. I guess that fans have made these cakes that you see in these photos.

If you don’t like WoW you would probably not like to eat them, but they do look good, especially if you are one of those who has a sweet tooth. The decorations are detailed and many, both of the game characters and known scenes. For many it would be a shame to eat them and destroy the cool decorations, but better eat it than throw it away, right? Star Wars fans have also done something like this; they’ve made cake out of one of the movie characters, no other than Yoda.

Small Dishes Can Make You Incredibly Hungry

These dishes look so delicious but at the same time are so cute that you can’t believe it. I bet you wish they were edible, but they’re unfortunately not. They are made out of polymer clay, and the artist that has made them is Kim Burke.

She has come up with several ideas for meals, and the most amazing thing is that each plate is amazingly detailed. You can even see how the apple is half peeled off with a knife, and how the egg is being mixed in a bowl with flour. It looks ridiculously real, so real that you are probably staring at the photos for more than 10 minutes.

She has included international dishes like sushi, waffles, pancakes, and even macarons. I wish she could make them in normal sizes and out of real food, yum! In Shanghai they also know how to appreciate food. They have actually made a edible replica of the city out of sweets.

Omelet Without Breaking The Egg

Imagine this challenge: Make an omelet without breaking any eggs. Impossible you would think, but the Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories definitely proved us wrong. They have come up with a method that gives can impress your friend by making this weird breakfast omelet.

Here is a short description of how to do it: First you puncture the egg with a toothpick or whatever you have of tools. Then you need a wide-bore syringe to remove all the content of the egg.

When you’re gently done with that lightly beat the content and put it back the same way you took it out. Be careful so you don’t overdo it so the egg will be pressed from inside and then eventually cracks open.

Take a plastic bag and vacuum seal it around the egg or just press out all the air.

Now cook the egg in this bag in a large pot of water 30-40 minutes on 70 degrees.

After that you crack the egg open and serve it; omelet without cracking the egg open, genius huh? People obviously have much fun with eggs; this guy made a Dalek out of one, check it out.

Eating the City: Edible Replica of Shanghai Made of Sweets

I have seen a plenty of different cakes and “edible things” but it seems that bakers these days have unlimited imagination when we talk about making amazing and unusual cakes. One of the latest amazing examples of bakery art is this edible city made by Song Dong, a Chinese contemporary artist.

It is an edible replica of the Shanghai City made of sweets. This edible artwork has been named “Eating the City” and a dozen of top food artists from Shanghai have been involved in creating of this amazing cake.

But what would be the purpose of cake if it is not eaten? This cake will be eaten by hundreds of hungry visitors on a Christmas Eve who are going to be invited on the promotion of this brilliant artwork to the rest of the world.

Brazilian Grape Tree – “Infected” With Delicious Fruit

At first glance this tree looks like it has a bad infection or something, but it hasn’t. The fruit is simply growing out of the trunk. It looks really creepy and crazy when you see the whole tree, because the fruit can remind of black huge insects crawling over it, or maybe that is just my imagination. The tree is called a Brazilian Grape Tree, and it is to be found in Brazil of course, but also in Paraguay and Argentina.

The fruit looks like a plum when you take a closer look at it, it can be eaten right from the tree, and it is used in jellies and refreshing summer drinks. The tree has also another surprise; twice a year it grows strange white flowers, also from the trunk, and it is important to mention that it takes ages for a Brazilian Grape Tree to grow, just in case you want it planted in your garden.

But why is this tree so different, and what is the purpose with the fruits being so near to the ground? The answer is simple; it was made for animals that can’t climb. Pretty amazing, huh? More incredible trees are these ones that are the oldest in the world.

Dollish little girls make photos look creepy

Ever heard about the TV-show “Toddlers and Tiaras”? Doesn’t those girls look like living dolls, that it almost becomes creepy? Well, that is exactly what the French photographer Alain Delorme wanted to capture when he shot these creepy cake photos. They are showing little girls that look fake and weird like dolls, in front of cakes, but the interesting part of the project is the atmosphere that he has made that comes so well out in the photographs.

It seems like the girls are forced to sit in front of the camera and smile. You get the same feeling now as when you watch “Toddlers and Tiaras”, because the little girls seem like they don’t want to be where they are, and that only their parents are making them do it. Delorme does a really good job capturing the moments so the right mood is managing to reach the audience and the only good thing in the pictures are the cakes. Speaking of cake, in Oakland you can find the biggest cakes ever in Cakeland.

Would you dear to eat Yoda’s head?

It looks like a real sculpture of Yoda’s head, but it is as a matter of fact a cake. If you do not already know, Yoda is a fictional character in the Star Wars movies, where he is a Jedi Grand Master who teaches Luke Skywalker how to easier become a Jedi. Tchitwood is the cake maker’s name, or that is what the person prefers to call themselves. Looking at the pictures you can see how the cake is realistic inside as well as outside, because it is completely red when you cut it, so it looks like blood.

You can see that on the pictures when they stab a knife in his head and cut out a part of his face. It is pretty sure that the cake is good, but it is hard to imagine that anyone wants to eat it at all, not even those with a really sweet tooth. How can you possibly eat Yoda’s bloody head?

Still the cake is made in a highly detailed way, and it is impressive how realistic it looks. If you are a true Star Wars fan, you should check out these Star Wars figures that are made in Victorian style.

Kevin Bacon Made Out of Bacon – How Ironic

Kevin Bacon, a world-known actor who has won Golden Globe and several other awards, and a proud owner of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Now he has been used as inspiration to the guys in J&D Foods and the website What Do Bacon Do. They have come up with the idea to make a bust of Kevin Bacon out of real bacon, and the artist behind it all is Mike Lahue. The bust is auctioned on eBay, and the money goes to cancer suffering children and their families.

Though it looks good, the bust of Kevin Bacon is not edible because it is covered with a lot of lacquer. Lahue on the other hand ate a whole lot of bacon while making the statue, and he says that he will never look at Kevin Bacon the way he used to. A lot of you are probably wondering who won the auction. One sure thing is that whoever got it has a pretty awesome piece of bacon art at home. Others have made different statues of strange materials, like for example these farm kids.
